Veterans In Cybersecurity

As a veteran working in cybersecurity, I’ve had the opportunity to connect and work with many other veterans in this field.

Here’s why I think veterans are great for cybersecurity:

  • It doesn’t matter what field or branch of the military you were in. I was an infantryman, but I’ve met veterans from many other fields of the military that have had success in cybersecurity.
  • One reason that veterans excel in this field is their ability to adapt to new challenges quickly. In the military, you learn to be versatile and to think on your feet, and those skills translate well to the constantly evolving field of cybersecurity.
  • Veterans understand the importance of teamwork and communication. In the military, you learn how to work effectively with others and to communicate clearly and concisely, which are essential skills when dealing with complex technical issues.
  • Veterans bring a sense of duty and service. This sense of responsibility makes them highly motivated to protect a company’s assets, and their motivation drives them to work harder than anyone else.
  • Veterans are dependable and have a mission focused mindset. They show up early, and if you give a veteran a task, they will give all of their energy to accomplishing that task and do their best to ensure it gets done on time.

I believe that veterans bring a unique set of skills and qualities to the cybersecurity field, and I’m proud to be a part of this community. If you’re a veteran looking to transition into cybersecurity, I encourage you to consider the ways in which you can use your skills and experience in this field.
